How An Aspiring Animation Student Can Finally Land His Dream Job With DVD Production

The animation industry is booming. Last year alone, thousands of students from various animation schools graduated to land jobs in all kinds of areas. This includes from web page designers, cartoonists, to high tech air flight simulation companies.

As an animator, you no doubt love your job, and could do it all day.

It really doesn’t feel like work, but more like a hobby that you just happen to get paid for. But what if you find yourself still in school, with just a year or so left to graduate and you want to get your foot in the door with an animation company?

One of the best ways to do this is to have a portfolio with a couple of reels as samples of what you can do. That’s the first thing companies and prospective employers want to know and see is if you’re able to do the job. Sometimes, you’ll see job openings that call for extensive experience and tons of previous education. Don’t rule them out as targets to send your DVD production to them.

On your DVD production, you should have at least 3 different samples of your animation reels. If you’re also an artist that draws by hand with various mediums such as ink, pencil or charcoal, include those as well. In fact, if you are able to do anything else besides animation, such as program in HTML, include that in your DVD production. Many people make the mistake of just showing one of their skills when it comes to applying for a job. Many employers prefer someone special. They prefer someone who can do several things at once, because then that lets them know that you are versatile and also a quick learner. Don’t be afraid to take some management courses, or to list any jobs you’ve had where you were in a position of management. That also goes a long way, as far as the animation industry is concerned.

Once you build your portfolio with DVD production, be sure to include the traditional cover letter and resume. You cannot get around that, but instead, you want to use a combination of the traditional resume and also show a real life, and hands on piece of work that you can do. There will be no question as to where your strengths lie.

Send your DVD production to as many companies as possible. Go for the ones that you know you will be comfortable working with, and also don’t be afraid to go for the big companies such as Disney as well, but avoid any companies where you will only be getting paid dirt cheap wages. You won’t last long there, and besides you deserve much more. There are thousands of companies that you can choose from and frankly, you’ll probably need to send out hundreds of DVD production samples to them. For this you need a complete CD/DVD publisher that not only prints but also copies the information from a master DVD on to hundreds of copies.
