Film Students - Make Your Own DVD Movies

Students all across the nation are getting ready to graduate from film school. Often, they have been so busy studying and learning the art of film production, that they now are having to think about where to land the perfect job as a film producer.

You don’t have to be a Stephen Spielberg to land the perfect job in a film studio making cool movies, but people do need to be able to see your work. The best way to do that is to make samples of your best work and put them on DVD movies. Making DVD movies is easy in today’s world, because technology is so affordable. You just need a basic computer, a DVD publisher and a few pieces of software.

You probably already have all you need

You probably have what you need already. If not, you probably have access to whatever tools you need to create DVD movies at your school. The process to land the dream job is simply.

1. Get a list of all of the film companies you want to work at. You can ask your instructors or professors of the directory that lists all of the film production companies in the nation. You can also go to the Internet and search through the search engines. Gather their addresses and key contact persons. Also be sure to capture the phone number. You want to get at least 800 to 1300 addresses. This may seem like a high number, but you want to be able to have the highest chances of landing the perfect job. The higher the better. If you’re really ambitious, go for 3000 to 5000.

2. Next, you want to make a compilation of your best work. This is your portfolio in a way.

3. Take that master DVD and copy it. Since you’ve got a large number of companies you’re targeting, you need a DVD publisher from us to produce these DVD’s quickly and easily. On the DVD you want to include your name, address, email address, telephone number and fax number.

4. Create a cover letter and a brief resume as well, along with a head shot picture of yourself. This may be different from what you’re used to, but the fact is that your picture gives your DVD and resume a personal touch to it. The person calling you back will look at you as a person who’s face he or she has seen, as opposed to just a dry resume and a DVD.

5. Send them off, and then be sure to do follow up calls to the to 30 film studios you want to work for the most. It takes an average of about 7 to 8 phone calls to get someone to respond. Be persistent.

These are the steps to help you increase your chances of getting that perfect job in the film industry. You don’t have to be a “starving artist”. Not if you know how to promote yourself, you don’t.
