How to Erase A CD

This article will show you how to erase a CD quickly and easily. The first step is to:

  • Double click on “my computer” on your desktop
  • In “my computer” go ahead and right click the CD drive that you are going to be using. Then click “open”. Then you’ll see a temporary storage area in “files ready to be written to CD” box.
  • Then in “CD writing tasks” click “erase CD”. After that, the “welcome to the CD writing Wizard” dialog will be shown. After you hit “next”, you’ll be erasing the CD.
  • After the process is done, you’ll have a message in the notification area that tells you that you can use the CD disc.
  • Note: Not all CDs are erasable. If the CD you’re using is not erasable, then you won’t be able to erase the files.

With CDRW’s you can erase and use discs over and over again. These disks, however, may not play in all audio CD players. In order to get that issue resolved, you want to use the CD recorder so that you can back up information on CD-Rs. These are the type that only can be written on once. The thing about CD-Rs is that the disk can be played in most CD players.
