Having Problems With Your DVDs or CDs?

How to clean a CD

If you have a CD that needs to be cleaned you can easily clean it with any on the market cleaning kit. You can also use rubbing alcohol to clean it. Do not use any abrasives to clean your CD. You should also stay away from any highly acidic cleansers or solvents.

As you clean your CD or DVD, you’ll want to use a very soft, lint free piece of cloth. Make sure you’re wiping gently in a straight line. You’ll want to wipe from the center of the disc, out. You do this to prevent any damage or scrapes from interrupting the circular path of the signal on the CD.

Handle your disc by the edges. Avoid touching the shiny part where oil, dirt and fingerprints can leave a residue. When you’re not using the CD or DVD, store it in the case. Keep your CD or DVD away from any excessive sun light, heat or anything that can scratch them.

If you’ve got a sticky CD or DVD that feels slimy, you could try the following:

Mix some baby shampoo in water that is luke warm. Use a soft cloth or cotton to gently rub the CD surface with the mixture. Then, you want to make sure that the CD is completely dry and that there are no water drops left behind before putting the CD or DVD back into the case. If you have nothing else on hand, you could try old liquid dish soap. Again, make sure you mix it with luke warm water.
