CD Ideas Presents: Start Your Mail Order Business Part II
Yesterday we had CD Ideas Presents and talked about the exciting idea behind starting your own mail order business.
According to the Direct Marketing Association, it is estimated that every year approximately 131 million Americans order a service or product through mail or the phone. Why are telephone sales included here? Because mail order is actually known as direct marketing, and direct marketing includes any form of shopping that is done at home or at the office. Direct marketing includes fax, email, phone and mail.
What forms of order go with the mail order business?
-
Direct mail - anything that is sent through the mail, including post cards, catalogs, sales letters, direct marketing packages, fliers, magalogs, and brochures. These tell the customer to take a certain action, such as calling, faxing, emailing, visiting a website, or mailing a reply.
Internet - it ranks as one of the hottest and most exciting mail order mediums since the debut of the catalog. More and more mail order businesses and entrepreneurs are taking the leap to the Internet to add to their secret marketing weapons.
TV and Radio Commercials - these are another form of mail order, including the infomercials you see on late night and early morning television. Again, it’s about a person ordering something without having to physically appear at the store.
Newspaper Classifieds - this is another form of mail order. These kinds of ads vary. Some of graphics and colors and some are small and tiny with nothing but text.

In order to make your CD Ideas a success, as far as mail order is concerned, you’ll have to define your market and your niche. What is it that you want to sell. You also want to be sure that there’s actually a need and desire for what you’re going to sell. How do you find this out? First start about the things that you’re good at and the things you know. What is it that you enjoy doing on a regular basis? Then, once you’ve made a list of those things, match them against the following guide lines;
1. The services and products you’re selling have to be things that you are passionate and enthusiastic about. For example, if you’re an avid race car fan, and you want to sell race car memorabilia, then that’s great! But if you don’t really care about that kind of stuff or you actually hate it, then you’re not in the right place. You’ll have to work many hours to build your mail order business, and you’ll have to spend a whole lot of time with race car memorabilia and the subject of race cars, race car driving, and race car events. If you’re not passionate about it, it can turn out to be a drag.
2. You must have a hungry market with money that will buy. If you know everything there is to know about golf, you find it fascinating, and you eat, sleep and drink golf, that’s great. But if you’re not going to find any people who will want to order your products, then you’re in trouble.
3. You have to have a well-defined speciality. Don’t try to be all things to all people. Be special. There are too many really huge companies out there doing that already, such as Wal-Mart. These companies have billions of dollars to spend on advertising and marketing. You won’t be able to compete with them on that level, but you can compete by providing a speciality that they can’t.
Even when it comes to mail order, there are many kinds of CD ideas that you can implement. For example, you could set yourself apart from the rest by offering your catalogs on CD. CD’s are lighter than heavy and bulky catalogs. They also cost a lot less to ship out than catalogs.
Implementing one of our CD Ideas can prove to be of benefit to you!
Another advantage of implementing one of the CD ideas we’ve mentioned before on this blog is that you are able to offer FAQ’s or user manuals on CD. You can even make the manuals interactive to keep people interested. Most people are just not going to read user manuals from cover to cover. In fact most people feel a little intimidated by some of those manuals. By making your user manuals as easy as possible and by even showing video demonstrations, you can actually win over buyers to your products and services.
Tomorrow, we’ll continue to part III of our CD Ideas Presentation and we’ll talk about the best sellers in the mail order business. You won’t want to miss it, so be sure you’re right here tomorrow around the same time to see part III of CD Ideas Presents!
