Are You Creating Boring Presentations? Find Out How To Spice Them Up
Are you creating presentations that put your audience into a hypnotic state of sleep? In some cases, this is something desirable, but if you’re trying to keep your audience alert and reactive, you may not want that result.
Presentations have one purpose and one purpose only. That purpose is to communicate an idea or thought. If your audiences misses the point, is confused, or distracted, then your presentations are not going to be as effective as you’d hoped.

How can you make your presentations more interesting?
You can make your presentations more interesting by addressing the core desires and needs of your audience. For example, if you’re in a business meeting, and you’re in real estate, your presentations should not only deal with real estate, but also with the needs and desires of your audience.
If you’re making a presentation to prospective investors and buyers, you should figure out what their driving force is behind purchasing real estate. Not everyone will purchase real estate for the same reason. Some couples purchase a home because they need a bigger home for their family. Older couples purchase a home, because they want to make a wise investment. Others purchase real estate, because they want to go into a smaller home. Others will invest in apartments as a business opportunity.
Your presentation should match with those desires of your audience. That’s why it’s important that you know what their interests and desires are.
Take the top 3 main desires and address them immediately in your presentations. You chould use them as headlines or benefit bullets. Offer to solve problems. Your presentation is going to be very boring if you keep telling your audience how great your product or services are. They are going to yawn if you go on and on about how many years in business you or your company have been and how you’re #1. They’ve heard it all before. They won’t be impressed, but instead will be bored to tears. Your presentations are not going to make a sale through boring them to death.
Instead, make promises and back them up with proof. Your presentations should have a little imagination to it, paint a picture of benefits, make a promise and back it up with proof. You should also have a little education in it. SOmething unique that makes your audience say “Hey! I didn’t know that. That’s neat! “.
Your presentations should have 3 main elements
-
Benefits
Promises
Proof
Along with these things you’ll also want to include some kind of illustrations, pictures, symbols or graphs to help your audience grasp the concepts easily. Not only that, you want them to remember the concepts permanently or at least long enough for them to buy from you.
There are all kinds of programs that help you create winning presentations. You can try Microsoft Office XP. This is one of my favorite that I use to create presentations. You can also create slide presentations with Windows Movie Maker. These let you include text, video, pictures, still frames, music and background sound.
The more you put into your presentations the more you will get out of it. For example, if you use pictures and graphs to help illustrate your main points, you’ll make it easier for others to understand. Also, appropriate music can also help imbed your ideas into the minds of your audience. Lot’s of teachers have used music to help teach “boring” subjects such has history, math and science. The same principles can be applied when creating your presentations, especially if you’re dealing with highly technical matters.
