How to Publish and Print Professional Looking DVDs and CDs

Creating a Great Demo CD!

So you have a band, you’ve written some great music and your ready for the world!!! Now what?! The next step to fame and fortune or at least to getting out there and playing your music is to build a great demo cd to help you get gigs, get played on the radio or get a possible record deal. There are two options for the actual recording part of the demo. You can either hire a professional to do it, or rent your own gear and do it yourself. There are of course pros and cons to both of these but it really all comes down to your budget. If you have the money, it is definetly best to get someone who knows what they are doing to record your demo. They know what levels work, how to mike the drums and are usually already set up for you when you get there. Its a little bit more pricey but well worth it if you are serious about your career.

If money is not all that readily available, you might want to try renting the equipment and doing it yourself. Just be sure to read up on the equipment before you rent it so that you know how it all works and are not wasting time trying to figure it all out. Now we are on to the next step in creating your demo. Choosing your songs. For some, this is an easy task. You want to pick the songs that best showcase who the band is as well as what you are trying to do with it. For example, if you are trying to get a gig in a rock bar, you might not want to put your ballad on the first track. Pick songs that suite where you are trying to promote yourself.

When you finish picking and recording your songs, you want to make them look as professional as possible. As great as the old generic cd in a paper sleeve is, you might want to consider making it look a little more professional. Believe it or not, you can get your cds professionally printed for fairly cheap or even do it yourself. The result is the best looking demo cd that you can possibly create and on a budget too! That way, when you drop off a demo to your local radio station or to a venue near you, you won’t be tossed into the mountain of white paper sleeves with sharpie marker writing on them. Instead, you will be put aside with all of the professional cds to have a second look at.
